Aerial photo of Bodmin Beacon

Introduction

Bodmin Beacon LNR is situated within the Town of Bodmin and spans 33 hectares. Dominated by the monument erected to Sir Walter Raleigh Gilbert (1857) the Beacon Field itself is a popular public open space featuring relict heathland and open downland. Adjoining this and spreading out into the wider countryside the reserve also encompasses 11 hectares managed as hay meadows and a further 16 hectares planted in 1993 as community woodland.
