Beacon Field has been used as an open space since before the Second
World War and managed as a public open space by Bodmin Town Council
since the 1970’s.
The hay meadows and community woodland have
been variously managed in the past as agricultural land (largely
as seasonal grazing for
livestock) until their eventual inclusion in the reserve with
the progressive expansion of the boundaries.
Some of the site was subject
to Environmental Land Manangement grants in the early 1990s following
which the whole site was declared a
Local Nature Reserve in 1994.
