History

Since 1940, Gwithian Sandpit has been a site of major sand extraction, with the sand being used for building and agricultural purposes. Any buried landscapes present are often destroyed by this sand extraction and can remain unknown and disappear without record. Evidence from the surrounding areas suggests a wealth of buried archaeology beneath the sand in the high dune area.
