The Reserve follows the course of the Red River from Tolvaddon on the
edge
of the A30 through wooded valleys and old mine workings to where it meets
the Atlantic at Gwithian Bay.
Long associated with mining it gets its name, from the colour
of the mining wastes
that used to be washed into the river.
Now it has been designated a Wildspace! Local Nature Reserve
which means
that the wildlife and archaeological features will be protected for
future generations.
