Introduction Location Wildlife History Out and About

Wildlife

Often migratory birds take a rest in the area so unusual species can be spotted. With summer comes a carpet of flowers, the most obvious being the pyramidal orchid. Also, evening primrose, red fescue grass and sand sedge are all typical dune plant species which can be found at Upton Towans. On warm days in June it is possible to see silver-studded blue and brown argus butterflies. In the summer evenings, glow worms light up the dunes as they try and attract a mate.
